Appleworks 5.1 Your choices are ... Awks51_Install_sdk.zip- includes two 800k Install disks (as .sdk ShrinkIt whole-disk archives) for installing Appleworks 5.1. Also includes Randy's Free Patcher for customizing some features. The set is bootable (includes ProDOS 2.0.3). or Awks51_PreInstalled_shk.zip- Awks 5.1 pre-installed and in a folder named "AW5" (in a ShrinkIt .shk file). This is the usual install you will get by using the Install disks. Probably, this is the easiest way to get Appleworks 5.1 going. After downloading, use WinZIP or a similar utility to unzip the .zip file. Check the included Readme.txt file for more information. Transfer the .sdk or .shk file(s) to your Apple II and use ShrinkIt or GS-ShrinkIt to unshrink the file(s). Appleworks 5.1 requires at least one 3.5" 800k drive or a hard disk. Although Appleworks 5.1 can start up with 200k of free memory, your Apple II (IIgs, enhanced //e, //c, IIc+) should have at least 256k of free memory to actually use the program.
