September 7, 1999 Æ JPEG View GS INFO Program Name: JPEG View GS Status: Freeware Version: FAPPLE Offline Meeting Pre-Release Version Program Copyright © 1993 by Ushiroda Atsushi Segments of the program made with Orca/C and Orca/M JPG.VIEW.SHK is a ShrinkIt archive. Use ShrinkIt GS v1.1 to unshrink the archive. The archive unshrinks to a GS/OS desktop application named JPEG View The program is a display utility application of a pre-release grayscale JPEG decompress and display utility. JPEG View GS can view a standard JPG, JPEG or JFIF graphic file (all display the same). This is the only pre-release version currently made available to the public of such a JPEG display program and does not allow saving of the displayed grayscale JPEG from within the program. However, there are several other GS/OS programs, utilities, NDA's, CDA,s and such, that will allow you to do a screen capture of the entire screen as an SHR graphic file or with options for certain specific NDA types and with some of these other GS/OS screen capture programs, you can use the mouse and cursor to outline just the portion of the screen that displays the actual JPEG graphic displayed within the JPEG View GS program window. As such you can capture the JPEG grayscale displayed portion of the graphic on screen as a grayscale SHR standard graphic. Color would be nice. But, even with being limited to just grayscale display, an SHR graphic format can offer a nice, clear, clean and well detailed graphic to view or use for your own individual needs. This program can only see a graphic file that ends with .jpg, .jpeg or .jfif as a graphic file and can only load it if the file has any of these endings with its file name. The JPEG View GS program is not concerned with the file type and can load any file type, as long as it's actually a jpg, jpeg or jfif graphic file of those proper structure and content. When you select a jpg, jpeg or jfif graphic file to load, the program will load it, decompress it with the file activity and conversion stats to the right, displayed in text on the graphic screen display window and then will display a thumbnail preview size of the graphic in the top left of the same graphic screen display window. When the program has finished with all this, then it will do an automatic full sized display of the graphic to the same window, which (depending on the original graphic file size) may often need to be scrolled up and down or left to right to view the entire graphic file contents. If no such larger display occurs and only the thumbnail size graphic is only displayed, then that's the actual size of the graphic. If the graphic file is large and complex in content, it will take longer to render the thumbnail preview and display the full screen window of the graphic. The program is very stable when functioning and I've yet to have the program lock up or cause a system crash, using it with either a IIgs ROM 01 or ROM 03 with GS/OS v6.0.1 or with the two Apple IIgs emulators Bernie and Gus on any Macintosh PPC machine model I've used it with.
