About these ShrinkIt archives -- ZDBat.FONTS.SHK and ZNFonts.shk Status: Freeware (with no distribution or use restrictions) September 17, 1999 A couple of days ago, I received an email request for help from one of our GS WorldView readers, who needed to obtain a Zapf Dingbat Apple IIgs bitmap font. He wrote that he'd searched all over the Internet looking for it and every archive of the font he found and downloaded would not unshrink and appeared to be corrupt. So, I search the Internet and all of our Apple II ftp sites looking for such. But, all I found was a TrueType (for use with Pointless TT program on a IIgs) of the Zapf Dingbat font. As some of you might know I guess, the TrueType font is the same as a Macintosh suitcase font, having many font sizes inside of the font suitcase file. However, our GS WorldView reader wanted the font as a IIgs bitmat font. And, hurray for the IIgs Pointless TrueType font program -- actually it's a control panel file -- that functions like an Apple IIgs application program for using, displaying, printing and best of all...saving one size of the TrueType suitcase font as a IIgs bitmap font. So, I saved the Zapf Dinbat font as a IIgs bitmap font - size 12. And, just in case you have the Pointless TrueType program to use on the IIgs -- I included the TrueType Zapf Dingbat font file -- along with the IIgs point/size 12 bitmap font -- both in the ShrinkIt archive: ZDBat.FONTS.SHK. The font's are just named 'Dingbat' for the TrueType Font suitcase file and Dingbat.12 for the IIgs bitmap font. When downloading the archives, make sure to download each as a binary file only. And, as each contains the TrueType font file that has a resource fork, you will have to use the GS ShrinkIt v1.1 to unshrink it, to get both the bitmap and TT font files from each archive. I trust this will take care of your needs with the Zapf Dingbat font size, in 12 point IIgs bitmap font -- as a properly sized font for your needs. Now here's the scoop on the ZNFonts.shk archive and it's contents. During my extensive Net search for the Zapf Dinbat font, I found another interesting font that had a variation and relation to the Zapf Dinbat font. It's name is Zingnats. It too was a TrueType font. I did the exact same thing with it to derive an Apple IIgs Zingnats (12 Point size) bitmat font. So, I decided to include it also with the original Zingnats TrueType font, for whoever might like to have it for whatever they might want it for. I figured our readers might like to see what these fonts look like before they go to the effort of downloading the font archives. Well, you can view both fonts in this folder exactly as PointLess displayed them on the IIgs. I've saved and converted the PointLess font display of each as a GIF graphic. That's All Folks !
