Um, by using Bev's Free Patcher for AppleWorks(R) 5.1, of course. (Patches available for earlier versions of AppleWorks upon request). The chart at http://members.aol.com/A2MG - then select "Bev's Free Patcher" - - lists several patches pertaining to the spelling checker, inclucing allowing words containing characters @[\]^_{|} and ~ (used by foreign keyboards), omitting words containing numbers, omitting words beginning with the number 5, skipping the Main dictionary, changing the order of spelling menus (for example, put "Get Suggestions" first), and of course, fixing the "duplicate words in the custom dictionary" bug, for which I found the cause and then fixed. The fact that this bug was found was widely reported in the press. The fact that it was fixed was never reported. Beverly Cadieux Join the Apple II Mail Group at http://members.aol.com/A2MG
