Naturally the main event for Apple II users will be the APPLE II USERS GROUP MEETING 12:50 pm to 3 pm, Sunday, May 2 Room 6 Hank Levinson, of the Big Apple Users Group, will present advanced graphics on an Apple IIc, and we also plan to have an Apple IIgs there. The Apple II user should also find the outdoors flea market interesting. One can often find old equipment and software there, though, there is less Apple II stuff in recent years than there used to be. But this is the place to find it. I've heard that the flea market will begin at 9 am each morning. Some say that the best stuff goes early but that the best bargains can be had Sunday afternoon when the vendors want to clear out. The Trenton Computer Fair is the oldest computer fair on the East Coast and is sponsored by a consortium of computer clubs. There are more than 100 talks and forums, from 10 am to 5 pm on Saturday, and from 10 am to 4pm on Sunday. Admission for both days costs $10. Children under 12 are admitted free if accompanied by an adult. There is a Grand Door Prize, a Pentium II high-end computer. There will be many booths run by commercial vendors indoors, but that is mostly PC or Windows stuff, of interest only to those who want to be up-to-date. Special events on Saturday include the keynote speech at 2:35 pm by Mike Elgan, editor of Windows Magazine, on "The Future of the Personal Computer", the Internet Cafe from 10:15 am to 4:30 pm, and the Saturday Evening Banquet, at 6pm, at the Ramada Inn on the Raritan Center Parkway. The banquet speaker will be Eric Raymond, who has been called the hacker culture's anthropologist and historian, and he will speak on the "Open Source Software Movement". The TCF hotline is (800)631-0062, and website is www.tcf-nj.org. For driving directions, public transportation, and parking info you may call (732)417-1400. As I have a TCF brochure with driving directions, you can call or e-mail me about that as well. The official TCF brochure claims that there are more than 5,000 free parking spaces in the Raritan Center. One can take the NJ Transit train to the Metuchen station, where from 9 am to 5 pm on Saturday there will be free shuttle buses to the Raritan Center. There are no buses on Sunday. On Saturday, the New York Amateur Computer Club, one of the sponsoring organizations, will run a bus which will leave from 6th Ave. and 11th St. in Manhattan, at 8 am sharp, and leave on the return trip from TCF at 6 pm. Although it is too late to reserve a seat, in past years those who have shown up at the bus have generally been accommodated. This is not a promise or guaranty. At this time, unless anyone volunteers a car, it looks as if those wanting to get there on Sunday will have to take the train to Metuchen, and then take a cab to the Raritan Center.
