What matters is who decides where the files go and their decision about where this should be. There is no particular reason why the files _must_ be on Delphi. If they can not be maintained on Delphi at no cost, they could easily be moved to another site or sites which would allow free access. > Plus, I dl believe that there is some software on there that the > author(s) have specified to be Delphi only so they just can't move > the whole set of files easily. Many, maybe most, of the files appear to have come from GEnie. Most of the remainder were certainly placed there without any specific restrictions being specified by the creator. At the time the files are moved (if necessary) to an open site, those who may have specified restrictions could be given an opportunity to object and, if anyone did, his/her stuff would be deleted. > To put all the files somewhere else > would involve downloading all the files and then uploading them at > a new site. Moving lots of files between sites is a bit of a chore; but, it is something I've done before (like 400-500MB worth). There would be no problem getting help for the moves from Delphi and Genie to an open site. As Paul observes, there is no advantage to erecting barriers which shut out all but a tiny number of users. And, for sure, the more people who use and enjoy their Apple II computers, the better it is for all users. Isn't it about time we ended silly divisions? Having the files on Delphi open to all users would benefit everyone and be a major step toward unifying II computing. Rubywand
