Your idea is logical and sound, but unfortunately not how current law works. As someone who has published in various media, and according to several lawyers that I've talked to who deal with copyright law, what I stated is correct and the way it should have been done - permission first, then posting. No "libel", just the law. (one of them laughed and said if any of the authors who's works have been posted want to contact him.... :) ) I for one want to keep my Apple II going as long as possible, but having developed intellectual property others use, I see it more as respect for the work people have done. To just say "let them complain" shows callousness. Those who pirate, by whatever justification will continue to do so unless stopped, I for one don't have the basis to bring suit, as was pointed out. If I had, I might take action. The fact that action MIGHT be considered is the sad part; common human decency rather than self-interest would benefit everyone. If you want to frequent the ftp sites that use twisted logic (and Rubywand - an interesting dissertation - you did have to go to some length to try to justify yourself. Good job! :) ) so be it. You only continue to hurt those who's works are being used against the law, whether or not they know it's being done. I will continue to use only those files I know are truely released in the public domain - again, my attempt to continue civility. This however, doesn't mean I have not the right to point out these facts, which I do, and will. :) Now on another subject: Bill, about those Apple I's. Is this by chance related to that email I got from you recently about giving me $1000 if I forwarded on your email so your new "email tracking program" could be tested? LOL Penman
