Date: June 12,1999 From: groink@macgeek.org To: cturley2@aol.com Aloha, Tom!!! A little about me... I've been using Apple computers since 1979. This year marks the 20th Anniversary of the Hawaii Macintosh & Apple Users' Society (HMAUS http://www.hmaus.com/). We used to be the Honolulu Apple Users' Society until 1993 when we merged with a neighboring Macintosh group. To celebrate our 20th Anniversary, I am creating Hawaii's first Apple Museum. It'll consist of Apple II and Macintosh computers. I've been rubbling through my old 5.25" diskettes (that's how I found the ROMs) and I've been finding a lot of great stuff. I've also been aggressively obtaining equipment for the Apple II portion. What I'm currently missing are the Apple II, Laser 128 EX/2, Apple IIc+, and the Bell & Howell Apple II+. I'll be displaying these models as they were originally used (Apple II+ will be running DOS 3.3, Apple II will run DOS 3.2, Apple IIe will run ProDOS, etc.). The purpose behind the museum is to support my ongoing studies in computer psychology. The main emphasis is to educate "newbies", such as new iMac users, about their roots. I believe the attitudes and approaches to technology today are because of the lack of knowledge and experience of the past (i.e. what it was like 15+ years ago). I think I personally am a better computer scientist and user because of my experiences with concepts like command-line operating systems, very low capacity floppy disks, cassette tapes, etc. That experience give me a better understanding about the progression of technology, which then sets my expectations for the future. It also improves your engineering skills, where you can come up with more creative solutions to problems. Enough of my rambling! If you think you and your group could help out in anyway, please let me know! Mahalo!
