12/6/99 Presenting Adroo's MP3 Music on the Apple IIgs By Charles T.'Dr. Tom' Turley I've found a really fine music artist, Andrew Takuda who goes by the name of 'Adroo'. He lives in San Francisco and composes some unique and diverse music, that I find rather enjoyable to listen to. So, I decided to contact him for his premission to port his MP3 music that he composed - for IIgs users to listen to and enjoy with the Oversampler GS/OS application. Obtaining his premission, I imported his original MP3 format music files with the Macintosh QuickTime Pro v4.0.3 - converting them and saving each as a stereo, 8 bit, QuickTime Sound Track WAVE file. Adroo's (current) Audio Sample - MP3 files download page URL is: http://www.mindspring.com/~adroo/samples.htm I've included a JPEG color graphic file in this folder of Adroo for you to view. Snagged it from his 'Audio - MP3' page. He seems to have a BIG GRIN on his face. Guess, he likes making music as much as I enjoy converting music for IIgs users to have and listen to. I've converted all five MP3 music files from the above URL for playing on the IIgs - using Oversampler. The original MP3 file titles of each can be found below with the file name for each converted. Several of Adroo's MP3 music compositions have been featured in the Macintosh monthly magazine 'MacAddict' (my FAV Mac publication) based in the same city of Brisbane, CA - where I live. Having a friendly working relationship with their staff, I reviewed their next #41 CD, that will be included with the Jan. 2000 MacAddict magazine issue. In that CD's intro Multimedia APP, they featured four of the five MP3 music file compositions from Adroo, that I've converted and present here for IIgs users to listen and enjoy. Adroo is considering production of an Audio music CD for release and sale, which I hope he does. IMHO, he's got great talent and could do very well with the production and sale of his music on CD's. All conversions of his music to the IIgs are copyrighted by Andrew Takuda (Adroo) and are presented with his consent. All rights are reserved and the converted files are presented for non-commercial use and personal listening on the IIgs with the Oversampler program. His converted music files listed below are classified as freeware - Copyright © 1999 by Andrew Takuda. They have use and distribution restricted as follow. The conversions of his MP3 music files to the files presented here may not be used for any commercial applications without his express consent and arrangements - accordingly. His email address is: adroo@mindspring.com The MP3 title and conversion file title of each are listed below. Kick Ass = K.MP3.to.wav Drutar = D.MP3.to.wav Gunga = G.MP3.to.wav Chest Pains = C.MP3.to.wav Jrok = J.Mp3.to.wav The above converted music files can be downloaded from the following URL and folder: ftp://tarnover.dyndns.org/cabi/Music.and.Sound/Oversampler.MUSIC.FILES/ Folder Name: Adroo.Music.on.the.IIgs As mentioned at the start of this article, each of the converted MP3 files of Adroo are 8 bit stereo, QuickTime Sound Track WAVE files. They were converted and saved as such with a sampling rate of 11.025 Khz to present each with the best quality of sound possible while keeping each file at its smallest size for ease of use in storage on the Apple IIgs and for playing each with the Oversampler GS/OS program. I also suggest for ease of use with each file, with loading and playing it, that you download the TurboBoot GS 800k disk archive, to launch GS/OS v6.0.1, load Oversampler (included on the disk) - with an unshrink program to unshrink it - then play the file as noted with the settings specified below. Download each file as a raw binary file only. You can play it with the IIgs application program "Oversampler" as such. There's no need or reason to change the file type at all to use it. When you select and load each file with Oversampler, I suggest making the following program window, mode, option settings within Oversampler before you select the play option. Vol.: 255 Frequency: 420 Note: The frequency may vary according to each individual .wav file you load and play. Thus, as desired...you should move the Frequency (*Play Rate) to suit your own best listening needs with each .wav file. Echo Delay: 0 to 5 (according to each individual) Oversampling: Off to 2 (according to each individual) Stereo should be the default sound mode. If you don't have a stereo card active in your IIgs, then you can't have stereo sound. Thus...you could set the sound mode to Internal and avoid any needless taxing on your CPU. I'd appreciate your feedback and comments on the file conversions and what you think about presenting MP3 and other various music file formats - so converted for your listening enjoyment on the IIgs using Oversampler in the future. Cheers & Enjoy, Tom Email: cturley@grin.net
