It is the de facto standard for serial interface cards on the Apple II,
and is emulated by the Apple IIc serial ports.

The Apple IIgs has different serial hardware, but the firmware emulates
that of the Super Serial Card.  This is less compatible than the IIc,
but most software that actually needs to access the hardware on the
Super Serial Card has been modified to include support for the IIgs
serial ports.  If necessary, a Super Serial Card could be used in a IIgs
for compatibility reasons.
