You might remember me supporting you on c.s.a2 a few months back when folks were bashing you. Less likely to recall, I spoke with you on the phone some time ago regarding your psychoacoustics -- I'm the one that used to sell the Omnisonic 801 'honeybox'. Just thought I'd let you know that I've taped most of the (VAMPS and NTV) disks you put out. I've made three full 90 minute cassettes out of them. In keeping with the free-for-all spirit, I've not charged money for them, but have instead sent copies to the various shows associated with the Church of the SubGenius; they're on 18 stations nationwide. They've been used for background music for several spots including one of my own rants delivered in Cleveland last fall. Along other lines, I've arrived back fairly near the field of psychoacoustics -- I run one of the few 128 channel EEGs in the world and study both running EEG and evoked potentials. Our lab is studying evoked hemispheric synchrony via stereo effects of slightly off-tone signals (440 Hz A in one ear and 448 Hz in the other to stimulate alpha rhythms, etc.). One of our researchers is Bruce Cosworth. He came here after leaving his post as the curator of the rock and roll hall of fame. Which brings me to my request. I'd like to examine the cortical effects of some of your psychoacoustics stuff. I'd like to ask a favor of you. It would help greatly if you could create for me sound samples of two tones, seperated entirely into left and right (any mid-range frequencies would work), and seperated in frequency by 2 through 16 Hz incrementally. Just a few minutes of each would be fine. Due to the nature of the effect, looping them wouldn't work -- they have to retain their phasing and can't 'jump' phase shift. Besides this set of tone pairs, I'd like to have the same thing with your added psychoacoustics stereo seperation enhancement. I'm afraid I can't pay for these except some small token -- this would be part of my thesis in experimental psychology. However, I would be certain to give you credit in the thesis. If you're wondering if this is for real, you can contact the lab and ask them. If you want to know to what extent our lab really is involved in psychophysiologic measurement, just look up Karl Pribram in psychological abstracts. He's our lab director and one of the last of the grand old men of psychology; a friend of Skinner's and Lashley's and so on. Also, you might have seen on CNN last month a spot about the 128 channel EEG from University of Oregon. That's the other one in the US. They built it and we bought it. I really am serious about doing this and I'd like to ask your assistance. I can't promise it'll turn out, but I can say that there's some things I could do with your help that I couldn't otherwise. If you think you might be able to help me out, please let me know. In any case, thanks for all the great music disks and all your service to the Apple community. =================================================================================
